Need help finding a historical/period drama or film about a young wife whose husband goes on a trip early in the film/series. The show/movie then follows the wife who ends up either turning the house into a brothel or works at a brothel while he is away. I don't remember what happens in this bulk of the movie/show, but it's something dramatic like she either almost dies or she becomes bankrupt or something. Finally, the husband comes back at the end of the film/show and everything is pretty much as it was before he left and I think he asks his wife how things are going and she turns and looks at the camera and says something like either nothing happened or smiles (because the audience knows what's up).
This show/movie came out somewhere between mid-1990s to the latest 2010.
