Old series from the 1970s… I believe it was on PBS…A young girl in Ireland is accused of a petty crime and she is taken away from her family and put on a convict ship and sent to Australia… An older woman befriends her on the ship when they land in Australia they are both indentured out two different men. The girl who can read and write and this is very surprising to everyone eventually becomes a governess to a noble family or a rich family and the man she falls in love with can either read nor write and she teaches him how to read and write...can’t remember the name of the series and I can’t remember how it ends and I and I believe the main characters name was Mary…
