Middle class girl, 22 falls in love with a black man, 28, orphan, used to be a slave,
They meet in secret to avoid any disagreements/scandal I guess but eventually the girls friends and parents become suspicious and the pair eventually need to meet the girls parents
The parents are outraged and demand that the pair split up.
They refuse to end their relationship and (possible ending no. 1) in a fit of rage the father kills the man leaving the daughter heartbroken and teaching her a harsh lesson about the society in which she lives
The parents are outraged and demand that the pair split up (possible ending no. 2)
They succumb to their wishes and split and the girls life is now highly controlled by her father
The lack of freedom eventually drives her to suicide when the parents are so distraught that they realise that they should not have interfered so much
