I saw this movie/or tv mini series years ago I only remember a few things but the help is much appreciated. The movie is based in historical India and a poor woman is selected to be the emperor's new wife, but she is in love with another man. A man she knew before she was chosen that loves her through out the whole movie and wants to be with her. he tries to see her and if I remember correctly I think he is killed. the only other thing I remember is that the woman at some point in her childhood was taught kama sutra, that's how I remember this being set in India.
