I remember watching a made for TV movie at my grandparent's house that they had recorded in the early 90s. It was about a family (parents and two brothers I think) that has to move west because of some conflict with another family in the area. So they become pioneers. They have two rafts which split up in rapids and get broken up. The eldest son falls in love with an Indian girl, and the whole family eventually find each other by the end of the movie. The dad was played by an actor with dark hair and really light blue eyes.
