A woman traveling by train gets off at a station stop, but is distracted by her encounter with a man angry at his horse while abusing the horse trying to get it to pull an oversized wagon load. She misses her train but is then mistaken as the new nanny/governess for a family who had sent a servant to pick her up at the train station. After turning the lives of each family member upside down, the movie winds down and it is only then that it becomes clear that she was just an eccentric older lady of some wealth who stepped in when she had been mistaken as the new nanny. (The real nanny had travel delays and no one knew of the mistaken identity for the weeks or months the main character stayed with the family.)
