I watched a film (or possibly a mini-series) with my father ages ago. (I was born in the mid-80s so it wouldn't be something recent). It was set in Victorian times - I recall an arranged marriage. The central character was a woman to be married. She moves to a house with a secret, a crazy woman shackled in the basement. I forget if the main character lets her loose or if she escapes - but she ends up killing a man (and I recall feeling good about that, as he was awful) and covering the walls with blood.
