A young man with low income, feels guilty he cannot provide for his (wealthy)sweetheart she protests that she can support them both and wishes for him to stay with her as her father is dying. However he still leaves to seek his fortune- upon returning 20years later (as a wealthy man)she has moved on (and is teaching music to children) and to the households suprise, refuses to marry him, as he was not there for her when she needed him
