Title Help

I watched part of this movie back in the early 2000's on Directv not sure when it was actually released. The setting was 1800's, the only thing I can remember was a young lady was sending a letter to a young man, possibly secret admirer type stuff, or it seemed it was supposed to be sent in secret. I didn't get to watch the entire show, and did not have the luxury at that time to record, I have been trying to figure this out for years, any help would be appreciated.
