This was a movie about a man who went to a masquerade ball and fell in love with a young woman whose costume was a butterfly. The woman kept trying to get the guy to take her from the costume ball but the other guests wouldnt allow it. At the end of the movie he realizes that everyone at the masquerade ball was a ghost who died in a fire. He grasps this after meeting an old inn keeper couple who saved the charred remains of the girl'a butterfly wings. She was the only one who escaped the fire at the castle but died of her burns as well. It was an english period piece i watched probably in the early 70s.
