More on this. This is a fairly recent movie (probably less than 20 years old). It takes place during the Russian civil war, where there are factions of armies: Red, White, Blue, Green. The main character was an officer in the Red army. When he went awol he wore the uniform of a dead soldier. During his search for his family, he came across civilians killed by a brutal, almost mythical Red officer with some sort of nickname. This guy burned stars into the foreheads of the people he killed. The main character heard that he was being blamed for this killer. He began to think he knew who the killer was and maybe he was to blame because he was in his outfit and by going awol allowed this guy to run amok.
