I don't remember much about the movie but I watched it as a child and it was set in historical times, I just remember a particular scene..
This boy, girl and baby are sat in a still row boat in the middle of the ocean. They have been in the boat for days and the baby cries the whole time. The baby eventually stops crying as its starved to death. The boy tells the girl to let go or something and she places the baby into the sea where it floats to the bottom.
I know it's not much to go on but its all I remember!
