A couple years ago I saw one episode of a drama on PBS -- possibly Masterpiece Theatre. It was set in 1800's England. A young woman worked at a large store and the young man who owned the store had expressed his love for her, but he announced his engagement at the store to a society woman.
The young woman left the store and went to work with her elderly father at his store. There she starting making neckties, which was a new fashion for the men.
I know this is very vague. But I think she became a fashionable store owner on her own to spite the storeowner who rejected her.
I would love to see the entire series.
