I'm looking for an old black & white movie. I believe it took place in UK, the plot was: after the war a soldier (since he have not a family) goes to the village where his friend - dead during the war - was originating.
The soldier dead indeed told him about his village, his home, his girlfriend... and he falls in love with her and stays there.
