hello, this seems to be "Durch Liebe erloest" a movie after the same-called novel from "Hedwig Courths-Mahler", a German writer of some kind of cinderellas stories....
to the story: he, as a young man, had had an affair with a woman who worked as an artist in the circus. for him, it was love, for her only a game, she was in love with another man and she only wanted money from the hero. when he discovered it all, he shot at the other man. his former affair let him believe he had killed her lover in order to blackmail him.... nice story, but the other movies from her are even nicer.
