Title Help

I'm looking for the title of a mini TV-series from the 90's (I think). It takes place around the 18th-19th century, maybe even in the beginning of the 20th century. It's about a young girl that I think is an orphan. She has a childhood friend, a boy with a hunchback, who is really sweet and cute. For some reason the girl is sent away from the family where she is staying and ends up in some kind of danger. In the end she marries her childhood friend and everything falls into place. I think the title was the same as the girl's: Mindy or Mandy or Maddie or something like that. Elly? Ally? Any bells ringing?
