When I was little my mother and grandmother followed a series which was about an English woman with red hair who had accompanied her husband or father to asia, probably China. She falls in love with an asian (chinese) man. In the end she gives birth to a son, which is taken from her.
This series was broadcast in Sweden, where I'm from, in the late 80's or early 90's. It was probably made during the 80's, possibly late 70's. Please help me, it has been driving me mad for years.
