Please help me find this British movie. I seem to remember 2 different plots, it's a youngish man just finished seminary school possibly but meets an American woman and they have some scandalous affair, or maybe they kiss at a picnic. Then for some reason the man finds out later that the bishop he's supposed to serve with is secretly married to his nanny or maid or something. I think he gave the servant girl a ring and she wears it around her neck and the bishop told her it's ok for him to cheat on his wife since he's now married to the servant. Maybe the wife is ill or incapacitated. I'm afraid that's all I've got to go on.
