A lot of it sounds like Oliver Twist, especially the 1999 BBC version with Michael Kitchen, Marc Warren, Sophia Myles, and a young Kiera Knightley. Except he dies from poison and the bastard child is a son (Oliver Twist). The daughter here might be the character of Oliver's young aunt.
